A tragedy shook the “Médina Niang Oryx” district in Thiaroye-sur-Mer on the night of Sunday January 12 to Monday January 13, 2025. Abdou Faye, a promising young footballer aged 16, tragically lost his life after being stabbed by A. Diaw, older brother of a young man he had confronted during a fight the day before.
According to L’Observateur, it all started with an argument between Abdou Faye and A’s younger brother. Diaw, which ended in a fight. Defeated, the young boy took refuge at home to tell his older brother, A. Diaw, about the incident. The latter, furious, decided to avenge his younger brother.
On Sunday January 12, during a ceremony bringing together many residents, the alleged murderer lay in wait for his target. After an initial altercation where witnesses managed to calm the situation, A. Diaw discreetly bought a knife for 100 francs in a nearby shop and blended into the crowd. A few moments later, he rushed towards Abdou Faye and stabbed him in the chest before fleeing.
Seriously injured, Abdou Faye tried to reach his house located a few meters away. According to witnesses, he shouted to his mother: “Mom, I’ve been stabbed, I’m going to die.” » Shortly afterwards, he collapsed in the street despite attempts to stop the bleeding. Rushed to Pikine hospital, he succumbed to his injuries half an hour after his admission.
Suspected murderer rescued from crowd
After the attack, A. Diaw sought refuge in a house, pursued by an angry crowd demanding justice. “To death!” » chanted the residents, demanding that the alleged murderer be handed over to them. Alerted, the Thiaroye gendarmes intervened in time to avoid a lynching. The alleged murderer was taken into custody.
