The match

After the great emotions of the end of 2024 and a heavy elimination in the Coupe de [NDLR : 0-7 face au Mans]FC Marmande (2e) should bounce back immediately. On the SU synthetic (4e), the locals were perfectly aware that they had to achieve a result if they wanted to stay in the game.

So many ingredients which produced an excellent match enhanced by a completely crazy scenario. Because, very clearly, ten minutes before the final whistle, we were not giving much credit for the invincibility of the Marmandais in this R2 championship. Better entered the match with a goal from Nathan (0-1, 11e), they were taken back then led at the break after an achievement by Medhi El Bagraoui (1-1, 23e) and a penalty transformed by Jordan Mbilla (2-1, 44e). “We were pushed around by a great team from Agen who knew how to put us in difficulty,” conceded Marmandais technician Nicolas Florès. But the match shifted to another dimension when a handball in the area gave the visitors the opportunity to get back on track. Marc Kim Jio did not let the windfall slip away (2-2, 82e).

“We said to ourselves that we had to accept our status as favorite and give everything to bring home victory,” underlined captain Mayverick Compper. And if we had to wait until the end to see William Boucif score the winning goal (2-3, 90e+ 8), the result was all the stronger for the Marmandais and the defeat more cruel for the Agenais. “To lose in these final moments, when we had a solid match with flu-stricken and courageous boys, it really hurts,” conceded Damien Carmaux, the assistant coach. Even if the road leading to accession to R1 is still long, the Marmandais have taken this recovery from the right end.
