Site visit to the future first commercial climbing gym in Corrèze which is due to open in February 2025. With a little imagination, manager Joachim Ramsamynaick plans: “Here, there will be the climbing wall which will go up to five meters high, so there will be the big foam mats below 40 cm, and there, they are in the process of redoing the roof.
Already the owner of a similar gym in the Dordogne at Trélissac, this bouldering champion is not his first attempt: “There is no commercial climbing gym like that in all of Corrèze and we felt that there was a demand for the activity in Brive, so we said to ourselves why not set up here?”
Joaquim is one of those visionaries who, seven years ago, was already banking on the growth of climbing. CThe last ten years have been 20 private rooms per year on average which have been created in France. This sport is practiced from a very young age, as our team was able to observe in Trélissac: “Come on, let’s touch a volume with our hand” explains Mathias Stein, climbing teacher to the children already full of enthusiasm in front of the wall.
-In just a few years, the offer has won over many fans. The principle is simple: no license and free, à la carte access, with or without subscription. Louise, for example, comes every Wednesday with her son.it works the whole bodyshe explains. Children like to challenge themselves, as do we with ourselves or with others. We tell ourselves that we will surpass ourselves a little more each time”.
In just ten years, the number of climbers has doubled in France, today attracting more than two million practitioners. A climb which is distinguished by the increasing feminization of the practice and the very strong enthusiasm among young people, as indicated in this 2024 study by the Climbing Observatory.
Young practitioners are also very enthusiastic when they talk about their passion: “Since I was little, I had been practicing climbing trees.explains this young climbing enthusiast, When I was little, I was very afraid of heights and by climbing, we learn to have more confidence in ourselves.” “I like the fact that if you fall, it doesn’t matter because you can get back up, and then there are the competitions and so you can evaluate your level.” says this other young climbing enthusiast.

JoelEmployee of the Brive climbing club
At the Brive club, we practice bouldering and climb on walls of more than 11 meters, and the discipline has never been so good: the club unfortunately cannot push the walls, and has reached the start of the school year its maximum number of graduates.
“Every year, we break new records in terms of attendancesays Joël, club employee: there, we are really at saturation, we are having difficulty welcoming people and we are forced to refuse new requests”. In nature, in a club or indoors, the offer is growing in Corrèze: enough to allow everyone to try out this sport with multiple benefits.
