We knew that Lane Hutson had the potential to become a good National League player.
But we didn’t necessarily know that he would have such a significant impact in the Canadian’s lineup in his debut in the National League.
Because it must be said: Hutson has become indispensable in Martin St-Louis’ training, especially because of his offensive talent.
It’s crazy to think that the defenseman fell all the way to 62nd (!) in the 2022 draft due to his small size.
The clubs were afraid of his size, and the Canadian had the chance to select him with a distant choice in the 2nd round.
In 2022, it was Juraj Slafkosvky who was selected with the first round pick in the draft… But Slaf, seeing the talent of his teammate, said (jokingly) that he would have chosen Hutson with the first selection of the draft :

Lane Hutson’s talent is undeniable.
And there, it is his own teammates who say they are impressed by what he is able to do on the ice. Not bad !
We’ve been talking about the defender since the start of the season and there’s one aspect that really catches my attention in his game.
Hutson is good night after night… Because he gets high night after night.
He doesn’t take a night off, he’s often the first player to jump on the ice in practice because he wants to be better and that’s why, in my eyes, he’s so successful.
When the effort and the will are there, it helps a player to improve:
If Lane Hutson keeps the same pace, it’s going to be hard not to talk about him as a good candidate for the Calder Trophy.
But even if he doesn’t win the trophy awarded to the NHL’s rookie of the year, it won’t take away his talent.
And that’s the beauty of it, because the Canadian will be able to benefit from him for several years.
