This work concerns, among other things, the installation of the roof, currently being carried out to completely cover this sports enclosure, as well as the removal of the athletics track, having made it possible to increase the reception capacity and the reduce to 85,000 places.
In Tangier, preparations are accelerating for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN) and the 2030 World Cup. Thus, the wali of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (TTA) region, Younès Tazi, is increasing the number of meetings working with those responsible and all the partners concerned for the smooth running and progress of the projects in preparation for the two major African and global events. Among these projects is that of the redevelopment and renovation of the Grand Stadium of Tangier, which is progressing at a sustained pace. This project has just entered a very important phase of its implementation, which benefits from the strong mobilization of all stakeholders. In this sense, Mr. Tazi carried out a field visit to the Grand stadium on Tuesday, January 7, in order to inquire about the progress of the work inside and outside this sports venue.
This visit was preceded the same day by a meeting chaired by the wali of the TTA region and in the presence of Youssef Belqasmi, president of the board of directors of the National Society for the Development and Management of Stadiums (Sonarges), and Zineb Benmoussa, director of the National Agency for Public Facilities, as well as representatives of the companies responsible for the redevelopment work and regional institutions to take stock of this ongoing project. The objective set is to ensure the delivery of this project within the planned deadlines, in accordance with the standards of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
As for ordinary Tangiers residents and residents of neighboring areas, they do not hide their joy and pride at seeing the progress of the redevelopment work on the Grand stadium. They are enthusiastic about the idea that this sports venue will share with the five other stadiums in Morocco the matches (including those of the official opening and the final), planned as part of the two African and global events.
Furthermore and as previously announced, the redevelopment work on the Grand Tangier stadium involves the removal of the athletics track. This helped increase the capacity of this sports venue and bring it back to 85,000 places. Among the other works currently being carried out, it is worth mentioning the installation of the roof of this large sports enclosure, making it possible to completely cover the Grand stadium. The work includes the installation of new stands and the renovation of the lawn. They also make it possible to equip this stadium with the latest generation equipment aimed at improving the quality of the sound system, the ventilation system and the lighting of the entire sports structure. Added to this is the expansion of the press areas, VIP areas and the grandstand of honor.
