Real Madrid lost 2-5 against FC Barcelona. A manita in the Clasico, that risks hurting for the rest of the season.
This Sunday was the evening of the Spanish Super Cup. Enough to give us the second Claisco of the season. An opportunity for Real to take revenge after the Catalans’ 0-4 victory in the league.
Everything started well for Carlo Ancelotti’s troops with Kylian Mbappé opening the score after just five minutes. Madrid supporters were far from imagining the stampede that would follow. After a fantastic first stop of Thibaut Courtois as a warning, it was Lamine Yamal who sounded the revolt by equalizing with a beautiful solitary rush in the 22nd.
Courtois’ nightmare was only just beginning: Barca stepped on the accelerator to score three more goals from Robert Lewandowski, Raphina and Alejandro Baldé before half-time (1-4).
A second manita this season
The second act continued in the same way, with the 1-5 signed by Raphinha. Wojciech Szczęsny then allowed himself to reignite the suspense by being sent off with a good half hour to go. Real took the opportunity to reduce the score via Rodrygo, but did not reduce the extent of the rout any further.
It is obviously extremely rare to see Thibaut Courtois concede five goals. This is precisely the fourth time this has happened in his career. This happened once with the Devils (the 5-2 defeat in Switzerland) and twice against the FC Barcelona (once with Real, once with Atletico). Conceding four goals in one half, however, had already happened this season, during the championship match against the Catalans.
