Dedryck Boyata said goodbye to Club Brugge. He was very popular within the group.
Two days ago, Club Brugge and Dedryck Boyata reached an agreement to terminate the player’s contract. The former Red Devil had fallen into oblivion but his large salary continued to be a burden on the Club’s finances.
His adventure in Venice of the North, with only ten starts in two and a half years, ended in very difficult last months. The 34-year-old defender has not been included once in the league this season, even having to train on the sidelines.
“They want me to change in a small room where the cleaning crew keeps their things. I refuse. I take my clothes and just change in the locker room. And since I can only train alone afterwards -noon, I can no longer eat at the club either, so they want to make sure that I no longer have any contact with my teammates. It’s as if I had an ultra-contagious disease,” he testified.
Not holding a grudge for a penny
Despite the lack of respect he felt he received, Dedryck Boyata left on a good note, with a family photo with the whole group and the Bruges staff, with a smile on their lips, to take a dignified leave of those who continued to esteem him.
If some players would have left by slamming the door after such treatment, the former Manchester City hopeful chose to leave quietly, even publicly thanking Club Brugge. The Bruges players almost all reacted with kind comments, telling him that everyone would miss him.
