The new year is off to a great start for the Béglaises, driven by an obvious desire to take advantage of the reception to move forward after the break. Before the start of the match, in a packed room, a moving tribute was paid to Jean-Pierre Abribat Honorary President of the Béglais club which recently passed away.

The locals attacked the match head to head under the leadership of Navarro-Cano (8-3, 10th), but a few rough passes allowed the Bretons to come back to within two lengths (10-8, 20th) then to equalize (10- 10, 25th).

“Expressing ourselves offensively”

It was with two units in advance that the Cabistes reached the break (14-12). Returning from the locker room Brouillet accentuated the advantage of the Béglaises (18-15.38th) then (20-16.40th), but this was without counting on the self-sacrifice of the visitors who again closed to two units (25- 23, 52e). At the start of the money-time Virginius, then Lasserre gave a final boost which allowed the Damier girls to win (30-25).

A result which satisfied Peio Bordagaray, coach Béglais “We scored 30 goals, it was a challenge for us to be able to express ourselves on the offensive level. Rennes is a team that is comfortable when the pace is slow, we wanted to take them into a rather rhythmic match knowing that we risked exposing ourselves to losing balls. But it is above all on an accounting level that this success against a direct competitor for maintenance is very important. »
