the essential
Arriving on the bench of FC Nérac Albret in the off-season, coach Karim Djebablah provides an uncompromising assessment of the situation of the senior green and white teams.

What assessment do you make of the truce?

I arrived at a club which wants to be in reconstruction. We won the 47 Cup (he played as goalkeeper, editor’s note) and yet no less than 10 players who started last season in the first team left the club. So I had to deal with a team that lost in quantity but also in quality. With one match remaining in the first leg, we are 8th with a record of three wins, two draws and five defeats. The group lives well, the state of mind is good, but that is not enough.

What is the senior group missing to obtain better results?

In this club, there is a lack of a work culture to fully succeed. The potential is there but it must be exploited. And therefore work to improve the quality of football played. This means in particular being present at training sessions. I am convinced that the club has the means to evolve at the regional level, but the players must realize that without effort this cannot be done.

What is your objective during the return phase?

We aim to maintain. We finished 2024 badly with two big defeats, against EBBE 2 (1 to 5) and Gontaud (3 to 0). As soon as I have two or three key players absent, it affects the team’s performance. Likewise, we collect big scores because too often the team gives up. The group lacks character. In particular, there is a lack of leaders to carry the team. We need to start off again at the start of the year on better foundations. This requires good performances against Virazeil-Puymiclan next weekend and at Passage d’ at the end of January.

How is the reserve team performing?

I work in perfect harmony with coach Jérémy Zahonero. The team is also ranked 8th with a record of two wins and six losses. The senior group being small, it is very dependent on the choices I make for the first team.
