The Maple Leafs got the defenseman back Dakota Mermis of Utah on Friday, according to Daily FaceOff.
This will not be his first stay in Ontario, he who signed with the Leafs last summer as a free agent before being claimed by HC Utah.
As it is a return to Toronto, Mermis can be sent back to the American League without going through waivers again.
Mermis, 30, is a defenseman never drafted in the NHL, who has been working his way through the American League for around ten years now.
He has 75 games of NHL experience, primarily with the Minnesota Wild last year when he played 47 games.
Utah had claimed Mermis because they needed a veteran to compensate for injuries Robert Bortuzzo et Maveric Lamoureux, not to mention the long-term injuries of Sean Durzi et John Marino.
Mermis signed a one-year, one-way contract with the Leafs on July 2 during the free agent period but never played for them due to a jaw injury he suffered during the training camp.
