The Frenchman is 5th in the general classification before the 7th and final stage scheduled for Sunday in Italy.

Frenchman Hugo Lapalus can still aim for the podium of the Tour de Ski, counting for the cross-country skiing World Cup, before the 7th and final stage on Sunday at Alpe Cermis (Italy).

Lapalus, third in the flagship event of the World Cup last year, is in fifth place in the general classification after the sixth stage, a 20 km skiathlon in which he placed 8th on Saturday.

The Frenchman is 2 min 44 sec behind the Norwegian Johannes Klaebo who is flying through this Tour de Ski with four stage victories, including that of Saturday, and who, barring a huge surprise, should win in the event for the fourth time after 2019, 2022 and 2023.

But Lapalus can still aim for the two other places on the podium at the end of the last stage, the formidable climb to Alpe Cermis with portions at 30%.

The Norwegian Erik Valnes, second overall, is only 26 seconds ahead of him, while the Austrian Mika Vermeulen is 3rd with fifteen seconds ahead of the Frenchman.
