the essential
The multisport complex, based in Agen, inaugurated a 500 m² climbing wall this Friday, January 2. By riding the popularity of the discipline after the Olympic Games, Agen Indoor had a surprising first few days.
Agen Indoor never stops innovating. In December, the company launched registrations for its new futsal academy for children aged 5 to 13. This Friday, January 2, she inaugurated a climbing wall within the sports complex.
This structure, 4.50 meters high and with a surface area of 500 m², is made up of three walls with a central island, in addition to the space dedicated to children between 4 and 10 years old. There are no less than 77 routes spread over ten sectors. They will be renewed every month in turn to “allow us to do something lively”, indicates Pierre Legros, manager of Agen Indoor.
Courses for all levels
Climbing took the place of the paddle courts, moved outside to create a pool in a new building, after a month of work. For the construction, the Agen-based company called on EP Climbing. The French company is renowned for having installed the competition walls for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 and those in Paris this summer. The distribution of the blocks was entrusted to Gautier Supper, double world team champion in the discipline and triple French champion in difficulty and speed between 2010 and 2016.
The contribution of these beautiful people made it possible to create a structure accessible to all levels, represented by post-its placed at both ends of each course (and not by the color of the blocks). And even the most seasoned people will be able to find something to satisfy their ambitions. “We were told that one of the walls on the central island was very selective, and would attract people from Bordeaux and Toulouse,” says Pierre Legros.
“Democratize discipline”
Continuing with futsal, an academy should see the light of day in the coming weeks, as well as discovery courses for schools. In the meantime, success was immediate, Agen Indoor riding the popularity that climbing has enjoyed since the Games in France: “I didn’t expect anything, but I knew it was going to be something very powerful. We just made a video to announce that we were opening a wall, and we gained almost 300 followers on Instagram in a week. We should even reach the mark of 100 entries on the first day.”
“We didn’t want to miss out. We certainly have things to improve, but we want to develop, offer a global offer and democratize the discipline to ensure that everyone can access it.” An objective already anchored in this multisport complex, which offers areas dedicated to futsal, squash and paddle in particular. This arrival also makes it possible to add a “complementary” discipline to other sports, since climbing can be practiced individually. “There is also a family side,” recalls Pierre Legros.
Three prices are offered, in addition to the rental of the obligatory slippers for practice: 12 euros for an adult; 10 for a child between 11 and 18 years old; 8 euros for the youngest. A good idea for a family outing, while waiting for other projects to come for Agen Indoor.
