The end of a long ordeal: Dedryck Boyata is free from any contract – All football

Dedryck Boyata had not played a single match since last February for Club Brugge. His very lucrative contract was terminated by mutual agreement.

Dedryck Boyata (34 years old) is no longer a Club Brugge player. The Club announced the news this Friday, while Boyata did not accompany Nicky Hayen’s group on training to prepare for the resumption, unsurprisingly.

Boyata had not appeared in the group since the Belgian Super Cup last July. He had not played a single minute for the Gazelles since February and a 2-1 defeat against Antwerp. Under Nicky Hayen, he did not play a single match.

This is the end of a long ordeal for the ex-Red Devil, who joined the Blue & Black in 2022 and never managed to bring what was expected of him to Jan Breydel. In two and a half seasons, Dedryck Boyata only played 26 matches, without convincing any of the numerous coaches who succeeded one another in Bruges.

Bruges released from a big contract

On the Bruges side, it was a financial weight, since the former Celtic Glasgow and Hertha Berlin had one of the biggest contracts in the core. A contract that he refused to terminate against payment of 60% of the salary due last summer. Since then, Boyata was no longer allowed to train with the A core and even ended up being removed from the U23 group.

Free from any contract, it is still unknown where Dedryck Boyata will resume the course of his career. A 31-time Belgian international, Boyata was part of the bronze medal group in 2018 and even played 90 minutes in group play three times, before playing two more matches at Euro 2020; he has not been included since June 2022. At club level, he has notably played 35 matches for Manchester City, 76 for Hertha Berlin and 135 for Celtic Glasgow.
