While staying in Senegal, Teddy Riner, three-time Olympic champion and living judo legend, marked the premises of the Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (COJOG) with his presence. Accompanied by Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, president of the COJOG, as well as Ibrahima Wade (general coordinator), Balla Dièye (sports director) and Abdoulaye Kanouté (communications director), this meeting, held on Sunday December 29, was l opportunity for a rich and inspiring exchange.
With an impressive record of 11 world titles and 3 individual Olympic gold medals, Teddy Riner embodies sporting excellence. His visit to Senegal and his visit to Eden Roc, headquarters of the OCOG, demonstrate his commitment to promoting the values of Olympics and sport.
A welcome full of emotion
Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, visibly moved, praised the stature and humility of the champion:
“Happy that we are welcoming someone who carries the Olympic flag at the highest level. We would like you to be by our side, not only for your sport, but for all young people. This is your home, your office, your family. Please know that I have enormous admiration for what you do.”
Teddy Riner, true to his simplicity, responded enthusiastically and shared his vision of the role of athletes in society:
“It’s always a pleasure to serve sport, because of my origins and my status. I know the Youth Olympic Games are a big event.”
A moment of sharing and reflection
This meeting went beyond the protocol framework to become a real brainstorming session around the development of judo in Senegal. The exchanges between Teddy Riner, Ababacar Ngom, president of the Senegalese Judo Federation, and his predecessor Babacar Wade have opened up promising prospects for the discipline.
This special moment between the judo legend and the OCOG team fits perfectly into the dynamics of the Youth Olympic Games, which will take place in Dakar in 2026, and which are intended to be a springboard for young African talents.
