Jak Crawford says he should consider a possible opportunity for a driver’s seat at Cadillac’s future Formula 1 team, if no opening arises at Aston Martin F1.
Crawford is a reserve driver for Aston Martin F1 and made his first official appearance at the Abu Dhabi post-season test.
Cadillac is expected to join the grid in 2026 once it secures full registration with the FIA, and the team formerly led by Andretti was targeting at least one American driver in its duo. Mario Andretti, who remained as a consultant, repeated this desire even if he was thinking more of Colton Herta for this mission.
“Obviously, at the moment I’m with Aston Martin and the plan is to be with them to learn and develop. Of course, if a starting driver place came up, I would love to have one. Honestly, it’s is my dream, so any scenario like that, of course I would have to consider it.”
“I’m doing F2 next year; there aren’t many Americans in F2 or F3. There are obviously the IndyCar drivers, so I guess on that European side, we can say that I am definitely the best American around.”
Crawford also said he was confident in his ability to perform in F1 if given the chance, partly based on his testing but also on the performances of many other F2 drivers who have taken the plunge.
“I feel very comfortable in the Aston Martin. You never really know how you’re going to position or compare in your first official session, and I feel like I performed well, and that definitely gives me confidence that I can be at the level, especially as many of my rivals this year in Formula 2 are stepping up and already doing well in Formula 1.”
