Unable to qualify for Can 2025 following its defeat against Tanzania (1-0) on November 19 during the last day of the qualifiers, Guinea had filed a reservation with the Confederation of African Football (Caf).
The Guinean Football Federation (Fgf) denounced the participation in the match of defender Muhamed Ibrahim Ame with a jersey number not listed on the match sheet. On several occasions, the body has expressed its optimism of winning its case in recent weeks, hoping to achieve a victory on the green carpet which would allow it to qualify for Can 2025 to the detriment of the Taifa Stars.
Caf’s response came this Thursday and it is not a Christmas present. “The Guinean Football Federation informs the public and supporters of Syli National that the Caf Disciplinary Jury has notified it of the operative part of decision DC23192, relating to its complaint during match 143 Tanzania-Guinea,” the statement said. Fgf, before revealing this decision.
The body explained that the Caf Disciplinary Jury “said that the reservation filed by the Guinean Football Federation during the match No 143 Tanzania vs. Guinea is admissible in form”, but “rejects it as ill-founded” in substance.
Guinea will appeal
Hope is therefore reduced significantly for the Serhou Guirassy gang, but the Fgf has not said its last word and has announced that it will appeal: “In accordance with the provisions of articles 54, 55, 56, 57 and 58 of the Caf Disciplinary Code, the Guinean Football Federation has contacted the Disciplinary Jury to obtain detailed reasons for the decision as indicated in the note relating to the system and decides to appeal within the forms and procedures prescribed by the code.” Suffice to say that this series could still have twists and turns in store.
