Mali found itself in difficulty by losing 1-0 against Mauritania this Sunday in Nouakchott during the second round of the CHAN 2024 qualifiers.
Faced with an opponent who already eliminated them from the group stage of the previous edition (1-0), the Eagles were once again disillusioned.
The visitors, however, had a golden opportunity to take the lead after half an hour of play, but their attacker missed his lob. Aritz López Garai's men fought back, but Malian goalkeeper N'Golo Traoré managed to save the furniture by blocking the penalty from international A, El Hacen El Id, during added time of the first period.
Mali in danger
THE Mourabitounes pushed again after returning from the locker room, but Oumar Mangane also missed his lob. The deliverance finally came from El Mamy Tettah, scorer with a shot from outside the area in the 64th minute.
THE Malians then tried to pick up the score. In vain. If they want to qualify for the final phase of the African Nations Championshipthe Eagles will try to turn things around on December 29 when they return to Bamako. A little earlier, the Senegalese champion and especially Ivory Coast entered their qualifications better.
