It will be a special weekend for Felice Mazzu. Indeed, on Saturday, he will travel with Saint-Trond to Charleroi, the club where he spent most of his career.
It will also be the 58-year-old's first time back at Mambourg since he was made redundant there in March. This decision was painful for Mazzu, who had already experienced several difficult years.
Mazzu refused Saudi Arabia
Indeed, before his second term at Charleroi, there was his eventful departure from the Union for Anderlecht, where he was fired after only a few months in 2022.
With Tubize, WS Woluwe and Genk, Mazzu has in the meantime toured a nice list of Belgian clubs. He never coached overseas, but could have. Indeed, in an interview with Sudpresse, Mazzu declared having refused an offer from Saudi Arabia some time ago.
Stayed for his father
No doubt he could have earned a very good living there, but Mazzu wanted to stay close to his father. The latter is elderly and is no longer independent, but he absolutely wants to stay in the parental home and needs Mazzu's support for that.
This is very much in line with Mazzu's reputation as a warm human being in recent years. He then landed in Sint-Truiden, where he succeeded Christian Lattanzio, who was about to be fired.
