Westerlo recorded a loss of 23 million euros during the 2023-2024 season, bringing the total accumulated losses to almost 60 million euros. Total debts increased from 39 to 44 million euros.
This result was influenced by large investments, notably the construction of a players’ complex which ultimately cost 10 million euros, almost double the initial estimate.
The negative result was also influenced by the timing of outgoing transfers. The sales of Nicolas Madsen and Lucas Stassin, totaling 14 million euros, took place just before and after the financial year and have therefore not yet been included in the figures.
The general director Wim Van Hove underlined in the columns of Newspaper that the club is on the right track. According to him, the “catch-up” is over and we can now aim for a season allowing balance. The necessary investments will now remain at a normal level.
Westerlo saw its turnover increase from 8.4 to 11.7 million euros, thanks in particular to a near doubling of sponsorship income, from 2.1 to 4.1 million euros. Although these revenues are not enough to completely cover the investments, the club is banking on continued growth.
The president Oktay Ercan continues to play a key role in the financial stability of the club. It enabled capital increases of more than 33 million euros last season. His commitment to the club and the region inspires confidence that support will continue in the medium term.
