The clash between AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain was marked by a dramatic scene in the 18th minute: a dangerous gesture by Wilfried Singo, Monegasque defender, seriously injured Parisian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
This incident, not sanctioned with a red card by referee François Letexier, triggered a wave of criticism of refereeing in Ligue 1. During an action in the area, Singo violently hit the face of the Parisian goalkeeper with its sole. The Italian international, bloodied, had to be evacuated after emergency treatment including staples. The diagnosis is difficult; a facial trauma which keeps him away from the field for several days.

Despite the seriousness of the impact, referee François Letexier did not impose any sanction on the Monegasque player, a decision which immediately caused controversy. Invited to comment on this episode on Canal+, Mickaël Landreau, sports advisor to the Technical Refereeing Department (DTA), considered that Singo should have been excluded: “ There is one observation that is unanimous, which is that it could not be released without cardboard. The clear position of the DTA today is that François Letexier had to show a red card. » The images of the shock, widely relayed, have relaunched the debate on the rigor of refereeing in Ligue 1, in particular in the face of dangerous gestures.
The DTA recognized a fault in the judge’s judgment, sharing Landreau’s analysis. The former goalkeeper stressed the importance of protecting players and deplored the seriousness of the consequences for Donnarumma. PSG, involved in several key competitions, will have to deal with the absence of its starting goalkeeper for the next Coupe de France match. Matvey Safonov will be responsible for defending the Parisian cages.
