the essential
Tennis player and 64th in the world in doubles, the player from Stade Toulousain (24 years old) won the P1000 tournament at 4Padel Toulouse-Colomiers last week with a total of eight matches, including a final won by abandonment.
“I’ve been playing padel since I was 15. For me, it’s the most fun sport and I’ve always preferred playing it with my friends rather than going to physical sessions. » Now aged 24, Théo Arribagé is above all a tennis player. He also ranks 64th in the world in doubles and has won seven titles on the Challenger circuit this year.
But last week, on the slopes of 4Padel Toulouse-Colomiers, the player from Stade Toulousain won the prize in a P1000 tournament, alongside Joris Moret. “I have never taken padel lessons and I have played much less for four or five years. This year was my second tournament. My tennis season ended at the end of November. As a result, Joris, who is one of my best friends, contacted me to play this tournament together and I have difficulty refusing a padel competition when I am available,” explains the Stadiste.
Seven matches in three days
In the absence of rankings, the two friends had to go through qualifying. “In total, we played eight matches, even if we can’t really count the final as a match since our opponents gave up very quickly. So seven matches in three days is a lot. But we reacted well physically. And on our level of play, we did what we knew how to do by demonstrating our qualities as tennis players,” summarizes Théo.
For his 2025 season, the Toulouse player hopes to reach a milestone. “My 2024 season is still quite satisfactory. From now on, we will have to perform better on the ATP circuit. In principle, I should play all four Grand Slam tournaments. Physically, I know that I have a good margin for improvement,” announces the man who would like to enter the top 30 by the end of next year.
