The Boston Bruins have placed forward Tyler Johnson on waivers in an effort to terminate his contract.
The move comes just six weeks after Johnson signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the team. The 34-year-old winger joined the Bruins on a professional tryout in August and recorded one goal and two points in four preseason games.
He has two assists in nine games with the Bruins this season, playing little over the past month. He has only played one match since the start of December.
Johnson played last season with the Chicago Blackhawks, recording 17 goals and 31 points in 67 games while playing the final year of a seven-year, $35 million contract he signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning in July 2017. The center was acquired by the Blackhawks from the Lightning, with a draft pick, in exchange for the contract of defenseman Brent Seabrook.
Johnson helped the Lightning win the Stanley Cup twice in 2020 and 2021.
He was initially hired as an undrafted free agent by the Lightning in 2011. Johnson has 193 goals and 431 points in 738 career games split between the Lightning and Blackhawks.
Husso dans LAH
Goaltender Ville Husso was traded to the Grand Rapids Griffins by the Detroit Red Wings.
Husso, 29, appeared in eight games with the Wings this season. He has a 1-4-2 record with a 3.47 goals-against average and a .877 save percentage.
He also played five games in the AHL, going 4-0-0 with a 1.58 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage and one shutout with the Griffins.
Moser out for a long time
Defenseman JJ Moser will be out for eight to 10 weeks with a lower-body injury, the Tampa Bay Lightning said.
The 24-year-old Swiss was injured on December 12 in Calgary, in an 8-3 win for the Lightning against the Flames.
Moser has two goals and 10 points in 27 games this season.
He notably signed two matches with one goal and two assists in October.
He usually plays alongside Victor Hedman, the captain of the Lightning.
Moser was drafted in the second round in 2021 by the Arizona Coyotes.
