Freyr Alexandersson was dismissed this week by KV Kortrijk. The Icelandic coach has already reacted to his departure on Facebook.
Freyr Alexandersson, who took charge of the team at the start of the calendar year and saved it from relegation in spectacular fashion, was fired on Tuesday after a series of disappointing results.
Under his leadership, Kortrijk currently ranks fourteenth in the league, with 17 points from 18 matches. But despite the difficult situation, the coach expressed his gratitude for his time at the club. “Since I left Kortrijk, the support I have received has been enormous,” he wrote on his Facebook account.
“I’m a little shocked by the number of people who have sent me messages and greetings, I really appreciate the support I’ve received. However, I want to say that I leave satisfied, I’m at a good place and I feel good.”
I did everything to heal the team, but not everyone was moving in the same direction.”
Despite his disappointment with the final outcome, the former Kerels T1 stressed that he had given everything to help the club progress. “I did everything to heal the team. Several people decided that I would not stay. I know that I would have succeeded in my mission if everyone had been willing to row in the same direction,” Alexandersson said.
Analyzing his time in Kortrijk, the Icelander spoke highly of the experiences he had. “This adventure has brought me so many incredible things. I have learned more about the world of football in the last twelve months than I ever imagined. It is a gift. I have enjoyed the euphoria of victory and I learned to manage headwinds.”
Alexandersson concluded his message with warm words for the club and its supporters. “My story with Kortrijk ends now and I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been on this journey with me. I wish the team and everyone who loves the club all the best for the future. Now a new chapter begins, whatever happens.”
