CH: Kent Hughes and Vincent Lecavalier went to observe Ivan Demidov in Russia

Great observers were present on Tuesday at Ivan Demidov’s match against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, Russia.

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes and special advisor for hockey operations Vincent Lecavalier were in the stands to witness the 3-2 defeat of SKA Saint Petersburg. They then reportedly intended to discuss the player’s development with SKA coach Roman Rotenberg.

The Montreal Canadiens prospect’s playing time has been limited in recent games. Earlier this month, he was left on the bench for the entire third period as well as part of the second period against Dynamo Moscow. He was also benched for the entire match on November 30.

Today, however, Demidov got more than 10 minutes of ice (10:56) for a rare time before this big visit, but he was still the third least employed skater in his clan.

He did not collect a point despite three shots on goal. He missed a great chance to break the 2-2 tie late in the second period when he went on a breakaway, but was stopped by the goalie.

The young winger therefore remains at 20 points (6 goals and 14 assists) in 33 games in his first season in the KHL. The fifth overall pick in the last draft by the Habs just celebrated his 19th birthday on December 10.

St. Petersburg fell to 5th place among the 11 clubs in the West division.
