Call Santa Mathurin!
With the help of his sister Jennifer, Bennedict Mathurin made hundreds of people happy by offering 700 toys to the children of his former Adélard-Desrosiers elementary school in Montreal North.
“I remember when I was a student at Adélard-Desrosiers that people did what they could so that we could have a good holiday season,” recalls the athlete. So I just try to give back. It’s a good thing for me, but it’s a good thing for young people too. To be able to have something that they will remember. »
It is not only with his gifts that Mathurin inspires young people. His play in his third season in the NBA is probably the best of his career, averaging over 17 points per game. This is even more impressive considering he is coming back from surgery on his right shoulder. “It was something for me to come back and be better than before. It was a difficult time for me. Not being able to play, seeing my teammates having a lot of fun and going far in the conference finals. It wasn’t about me coming back and being a better player. »
Mathurin has always had offensive talent, so it’s no surprise defensively that he wanted to see progression. “I think my defense has improved a lot. This is something I needed to improve on. »
The Quebecer is averaging more than six rebounds per game this season, a notable improvement compared to his first two campaigns. “It comes with natural progression. It depends on who I cover on defense. If I keep point guard, I’ll probably have fewer rebounds because I’m higher. If I cover the wingers, it will be easier for me to get rebounds. »
The Pacers are currently eighth in the East, with 12 wins and 15 losses, but Mathurin believes the team is finding its rhythm right now.
Last year, Indiana stopped in the Eastern Conference finals during the NBA playoffs.
