Left behind in the standings in their departmental championship, the Villeneuvois intended to relaunch in the Lot-et-Garonne Cup with the arrival of Mas (Regional 3). But if they generally had control of the ball in the first half, they were hardly dangerous against an opponent who was rather well organized in the defensive sector. The second half was more lively with the Massais reduced to ten after a big mistake by a player on Antony Robin (50th). But paradoxically it was with one less element that the guys from Mas were going to score two goals in two minutes. A first time due to poor communication between an FCVL defender and his goalkeeper (0-1, 53rd). A second time on a well-conducted counterattack with a local defensive block that was far too permeable (0-2, 55th). With their backs to the wall and having nothing left to lose, Nicolas Denis’s eleven then threw their last cartridges into the battle. A quarter of an hour from the final whistle, Théo Daumières reduced the score (1-2, 75th). Insufficient to prevent his team from experiencing another defeat on their lawn with still two penalties at the very end of the match (85th and 93rd) which could have been whistled in favor of the locals. “We will now take advantage of the long break to come together and try to start 2025 on better foundations,” confided FCVL assistant coach Oualid El Hariouli. With a late match on January 12 at Pays du Dropt which is one of the big teams in the championship.
