Washington suffered its 20th defeat of the NBA season in 23 matches on Friday. Still without Kyshawn George, the Wizards were beaten 115-105 by the best team in the League, Cleveland.
This setback, the second in a row since Washington ended a series of 16 defeats last Saturday against Denver, took shape between the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth. Cleveland then managed a 7-0 partial which allowed it to breathe (89-80).
The Cavaliers (22 wins-4 losses), who remain on 11 consecutive victories against Washington, were able to count on Darius Garland (24 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds) to make the difference. Cleveland had to cope without its power forward Evan Mobley, who was injured in the ankle during a match lost against Miami last Sunday.
This duel was already the third of the season between Washington and Cleveland. Injured an ankle ten days earlier during the previous face-to-face with the Cavaliers, Kyshawn George missed a fourth consecutive game on Friday. He celebrated his 21st birthday on Thursday.
