Cannavaro, very close to joining the Jupiler Pro League

Fabio Cannavaro, considered one of the best defenders in Italian history, has had a more complicated coaching career. Recently, the Italian coach almost landed in the Jupiler Pro League, according to The Importance of Limburg.

No Cannavaro or Keane at OHL

Oud-Heverlee Louvain (OHL) had approached Fabio Cannavaro to succeed Oscar Garcia. The former Real Madrid and Juventus player, however, took too long to decide on the opportunity that OHL represented for his career. Currently, Cannavaro is free after leaving Udinese.
OHL also had Robbie Keane in its sights. The former Maccabi Tel Aviv coach, also without a club, was interested in the position. However, he required coming with a large number of collaborators, which cooled the Leuven leaders.

Coleman wins the bet

It was ultimately Chris Coleman who was named OHL coach. The Welshman, former coach of his country and former Premier League player, was available after experiences in Greece and Cyprus. As soon as he arrived, he did not mince his words:
“I accept this challenge with enthusiasm. I don’t see why we couldn’t aim for the top 6 in the long term. Currently we still have to focus on the teams behind us, but in terms of quality of players and staff we have a solid foundation. It’s not our immediate priority, but I think OHL can aim for a place in Europe in the future,” he said.

He was last Sunday in the King Power stand where he saw his future team disrupt the Anderlecht team without too much difficulty (0-0).
