Since the start of the season, people have spoken highly of Jake Evans.
It’s deserved, by the way. The center player provides great service to the Montreal organization because he plays the right way.
He shows up in every game, and he’s one of the few on the roster who is capable of doing it.
The way he’s playing, Evans is starting to build a pretty interesting resume for NHL teams that might be interested in his services ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.
He is responsible in all three zones of the ice, he has playoff experience, he is capable of playing shorthanded and he excels in that area… But as David Pagnotta mentioned in a video clip ( The Fourth Period), it’s really the player’s salary that makes it interesting.
Evans is in the final year of his contract, which accounts for $1.7 million on payroll. That’s not much for a player who can help like him.
That said, Pagnotta also recalls that several teams will follow him closely and among those who wish to improve the bottom of their lineup, the informant speaks of the Leafs and the Kings.
He threw the names of these teams into the discussion:
Teams like Toronto. Teams like Los Angeles. Other clubs who want to improve their bottom-6, Evans will be there. –David Pagnotta
Pagnotta’s comments do not indicate that Evans will end up in Los Angeles or Toronto by March.
What that means, on the other hand, is that the player will generate interest from teams aspiring to the Stanley Cup because he has interesting qualities and because he does not (really) cost much.
On the other hand, it will be up to Kent Hughes to see if he wants to trade his young veteran.
Evans shared his wish to stay in Montreal, but if Kent Hughes has an offer on the table that he can’t refuse, things could get complicated in the Montreal GM’s head.
At this level, I really wonder what the value of the player looks like… Again, especially at the salary he receives and especially in view of the fact that there could be several clubs in the race for his services. #Outbidding
All this to say that we haven’t stopped hearing the name of Jake Evans in transaction rumors. And it’s going to get even more intense if he’s able to keep up the pace in the coming months.
In burst
– It’s official:
– Tony Marinaro knows how to give a show.
– Still, it should work.
– The opposite would have been surprising… No?
