Hockey: Sam Oliver will go into exile in the NCAA next year

Drummondville Voltigeurs forward Sam Oliver has signed with the University of New Hampshire, which he will join starting with the 2025-2026 season.

The Voltigeurs announced the news on Tuesday, taking care to mention that the 20-year-old center would still finish the season in the QMJHL, he who is in his last season of eligibility.

“The forward will finish his junior internship with the Voltigeurs before aligning with his new team, during the next season, to perfect his academic and hockey progress,” wrote the organization.

Oliver has become an important cog in the Voltigeurs’ success, as evidenced by his 20 goals and 31 points in 26 games this season.

In 2023-2024, Oliver collected 71 points in 68 games, his best season in the junior circuit. He joined the Voltigeurs in 2021-2022, after beginning his stay in the QMJHL with the Charlottetown Islanders.

There is also the Montreal Canadiens’ fourth-round pick in the 2022 draft, Cedrick Guindon, who has reportedly announced he will join the Vermont team.

The 20-year-old forward is playing for the Kingston Frontenacs this season in the OHL. In 25 games, he has already amassed 34 points, including 20 assists.
