According to the latest indiscretions, Ghanaian Augustine Boakye should sign with ASSE this week. The versatile attacking midfielder who plays in Austria remains relatively unknown in France. The opportunity for us to chat with @AutricheFootFr, a regular follower of the Bundesliga.
Boakye, the Ghanaian bombshell?
How did his first season go? Did he get noticed quickly?
“His first season was clearly not the most remarkable, with only one appearance at the end of a match in the Bundesliga, he did not attract much attention. On the other hand, he arrived from Ghana where he was considered a great hope for the country and could hope for a great career in Austria!”
So it took until its third season for it to really take off?
“I would say that he clearly took off at the end of the 2022-2023 season where in the second phase of the championship against weaker teams, he was able to string together matches with great performances. The 3rd season was the one where he confirmed the expectations that we could have at the end of his second season. He has reached a new level.”
Versatility and sought-after qualities
What position does he play?
“To tell the truth, Augustine Boakye doesn’t really have a fixed position. He mainly plays as a number 10, or even in the front of the attack. Although at Wolfsberger, given that they have other talented players in these positions, they have rotated a lot. We have also regularly found him on the wings. That makes him an attacker with many assets!”
In your opinion, what are its main assets?
“Essentially, his speed and dribbling ability make him a real danger for opposing defenses. And when he’s not in space, he’s the one who opens it up for his teammates. Both through his runs and his passes that break lines.”
Given his stats this season, he seems to be finishing his plays better in recent months. What do you think?
“You have to put it in context. The Austrian championship tends towards this kind of scenario for the smaller clubs. The second phase of the championship leads to meetings between the last six. But it remains impressive what he produced in the second phase despite the injury.”
Boakye, the right choice for the Greens?
He suffered a serious injury?
“No, it was not serious, Augustine Boakye missed a few games, but his end of the season was “chopped” because of that.”
ASSE relies on data to find new profiles. Does the fact that his profile came out seems logical to you?
“For me, it seems logical. In his field, he is one of the most efficient in the championship and it does not surprise me that the statistics put him to his advantage! He will not be the first nor the last to have been revealed in Austria through statistics.
Last question, do you think he has what it takes to reach a new level in Ligue 1? A good pick for the Greens? Even at 5 million?
“I think he’s a player who is destined to move up a level in terms of the championship. Joining a Ligue 1 promoted team can be a good idea! For reference and if it can give you hope, Lorient last year recruited Bamba from Wolfsberger and he was also a revelation in the Ligue 1 championship!”
