Even at the ripe old age of 40, Sergio Garcia’s temperament is still as capricious as the many followers of The Open qualifying at the West Lancashire Golf Club were able to see, where the Spaniard was trying to secure a ticket to The Open in Troon.

An impressive crowd followed Sergio Garcia au West Lancashire Golf Clubnot far from Liverpool on Tuesday. The player of the LIFE Golfwho was attempting to qualify for the 152nd The Open at Troon, was playing alongside the Irishman Sam Maguire and English Sam Bairstow.

The three men were given a warning for slow play in the 8th after officials estimated they were four minutes behind the group ahead of them.

Sergio Garcia doesn’t like referees

A decision which, to say the least, did not please Garcia who railed against the referees after his tee shot on the following hole.

In the video filmed by a Scottish journalist, the winner of the Masters 2017 explains that he was forced to wait due to the massive presence of spectators and that the stewards struggled to get them out of his line of play.

“You are right, we are always wrong”continues the Spaniard, accustomed to this kind of outing. Indeed, a few weeks before his departure on the LIV, he had attacked the referees of the PGA Tour.

Twice second

Sergio Garcia, who has 10 top 10 finishes in The Open, including two second places in 2007 at Carnoustie and 2014 to Royal Liverpoolmissed qualifying by two shots.

It will be the second time in two years that the 44-year-old has missed the start of the final Major of the season.
