The captain and educator at the ASM handball school talks about her investment in young people and her team’s recent victory.
Lorène, how did you get into handball?
We left Maubourguet college with a group of friends. All of them are no longer there but they contributed at one time to perpetuating the ASM club. We stay in touch. Sport has this virtue of transgenerational bonding through our memories and everything that connects us.
Do you continue to bear the witness?
I was able to stay at the club and continue playing. The age range of our senior women’s team is from 16 to 40 years old. New mothers will soon rejoin the workforce. They also, in their own way, prove their attachment to this collective and ensure the future of the club that they want to see continue.
Personally, is your investment different through training?
If an amateur club does not renew itself from the base, it dies because the generations pass. With my colleagues Pierrick and Dorian, we make sure to interest little ones in this discipline. The handball school has 30 children aged 3 to 9. It is in this breeding ground that the teams of tomorrow will be built in Madiran.
What is your role in this school?
In its practice, handball is a vector of socialization. The babyhand is a version suitable for the age of discovery and first learning. Motor skills are part of action and expression with the body. That’s what I’m attached to. Diversification allows us to perceive the most varied behaviors. It is also enriching for the educator. The field of 70 children registered for this morning’s interclub tournament highlights all the work of all the training centers.
Saturday evening, your team won by a large margin. How does the captain analyze the content of the meeting and envisage the end of the evening?
Our collective respected the coach’s instructions so that we were able to work in a real situation. We left after a friendly moment in Spanish hostel mode as planned because life is good in Madiran.
