Rovanperä as savior… and victor!

Reigning World Rally Champion Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota GR) is competing in a partial WRC programme this season. The Finn had not planned to start Rally Poland, but his Toyota Gazoo Racing team called him up at the last minute to replace Sébastien Ogier, who was the victim of an accident during reconnaissance on Tuesday.
Despite having less than 40 hours to prepare, Rovanperä and co-driver Jonne Halttunen did not seem too affected as the duo claimed their thirteenth win at the highest level. The pair edged team-mate Elfyn Evans by 28.3 seconds in a one-two for the Toyotas as Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) dropped down the order on Sunday.
With just a delaminated tyre and a slow puncture in the final test, Elfyn Evans fared well compared to his main title rivals. The Welshman reclaims second place in the championship from Ott Tänak (Hyundai) while closing to within fifteen points of Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) heading into the final six rounds of the season.
Victim of an inevitable collision which led to his retirement on Friday morning, Tänak set off again on Saturday and managed to score eleven points on Sunday. His team-mate Neuville won the Wolf Power Stage while having to settle for fourth place after having to sweep the road on Friday.
