The Washington Capitals signed defenseman Matt Roy to a six-year, $34.5 million ($5.75 million/season) contract on Monday.

The 29-year-old defenseman had 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 81 games with the Los Angeles Kings last season and two assists in five Stanley Cup Playoff games.

“Matt is a reliable right-shot defenseman who can play big minutes against the opposition’s top players and is extremely responsible in his own zone,” general manager Brian MacLellan said. “We believe his acquisition will enhance our blue line for many years to come.”

Selected by the Kings in the seventh round (194th overall) of the 2015 draft, Roy has 106 points (24 goals, 82 assists) in 369 regular season games and six
points (one goal, five assists) in 18 playoff games.

Duhaime and Raddysh join the attack

The Capitals also added depth to their offense by signing Brandon Duhaime to a two-year deal worth $1.85 million per season.

The 26-year-old forward had 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 80 games with the Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild last season, including five points (one goal, four assists) in 18 games after being acquired by the Avalanche in a trade with the Wild on March 7.

He scored one goal in 11 Stanley Cup playoff games.

Selected by the Wild in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2016 draft, Duhaime has 40 points (20 goals, 20 assists) in 211 season games for the Avalanche and Wild and one goal in 23 playoff games.

General manager Brian McLellan continued his workday by offering a one-year, $1,000,000 contract to Taylor Raddysh.

The 26-year-old forward has 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in 73 games with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2023-24. The 6-foot-3 forward was Chicago’s second-most used penalty killer last season.

Selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round (58th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Raddysh has 73 points (36 goals, 37 assists) in 225 games with the Blackhawks and Lightning.
