LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew broke his collarbone late in the game during a 29-19 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Minshew, who signed a two-year, $25 million contract in March, including $15 million guaranteed, was injured on a sack by Cody Barton in the 4e quart.
Minshew landed awkwardly on his left shoulder and appeared to fight back tears as he walked off the field holding his left arm in a curled up position and went straight to the locker room with a trainer.
With the absence of Minshew, the Raiders find themselves at quarterback with Desmond Ridder, acquired from the Cardinals on October 22, Aidan O’Connell, who can now return to the game after breaking the thumb on his right hand on Oct. 20, and Carter Bradley, who is on the practice squad.
Las Vegas has a short week, with a game Friday against the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
“We’re going to need someone, aren’t we?” said head coach Antonio Pierce. “We’re short on quarterbacks, so we’ll see what happens [lundi]. By all accounts, it appears O’Connell’s condition is improving. He threw a little bit in practice this week. »
“Obviously we have a short week – we play Friday, we travel Thursday – so we have to make this decision very quickly. »
O’Connell was unavailable after the loss to Denver, but Ridder said he would be ready for the Chiefs if his number was called.
