Noussair Mazraoui makes his new coach at Manchester United happy. Ruben Amorim said he was very satisfied with his defender’s performance against Ipswich Town.
Despite a dull 1-1 draw at Portman Road, the Moroccan was one of the rare players who was able to keep his head high after this performance, which did not escape his coach.
Mazraoui put in an action-packed performance with plenty of touches of the ball, successful passes and winning duels. The Atlas Lion was all the more impressive as he was tasked with playing an unfamiliar role as a right central defender in a three-man defense.
Speaking to the BBC after the match, Amorim did not fail to highlight Mazraoui’s many qualities. The Portuguese technician lamented the current lack of central defense options at the club but praised the efforts of United’s number three.
“We don’t have many central defenders, so we have to adapt some players. I think Noussair Mazraoui played very well. He is very intelligent and is so important to us. He can play anywhere and this kind of player is crucial for our future,” he declared.
This is not the first time Mazraoui has shown his flexibility as he also played as a number 10 for Erik ten Hag against Fenerbahce last month.
The former Bayern Munich man has also played right-back and left-back and could potentially be moved to fill the full-back positions in Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation in the future.
