The parking lot of the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium will remain silent on Sunday December 8 when Olympique de Marseille arrives. In a decree dated November 21, the Loire Prefecture decided to prohibit the movement of Marseille supporters to Saint-Étienne and the Chaudron.
A ban taken, assure the authorities, because of the risks involved in this meeting of the 14th day of Ligue 1 between AS Saint-Étienne and OM. The match is classified at level 4 out of 5 (high risks) by the DNLH (National Division for the Fight against Hooliganism). In this decree, the Prefecture also highlights “the old and lasting antagonism” between the supporters of the two clubs (attacks and attempted attacks on the convoy of Marseille supporters in 2019 and 2020), as well as the risk of massive employment pyrotechnic devices from the Magic Fans, the avant-garde of which will celebrate its anniversary.
Geoffroy-Guichard’s yardage will therefore ring hollow for the second match in a row. Last Saturday, the 300 Montpellier supporters expected for the 13th day of Ligue 1 were ultimately not allowed to access the stands following clashes during their arrival. Several dozen MHSC supporters got off their bus, armed with iron bars and other blunt objects to violently oppose the Saint-Etienne supporters located there. The authorities strongly condemned “the actions, which harm the image of football, of sport in general, and mobilize substantial means of public security”.
