Work to build the new stands at the Grand Ibn Batouta stadium in Tangier, aiming to increase its capacity by 15,000 seats, is now complete. Now time for the installation of a roof which will cover the site. The details.

Bigger, more modern and it will be covered. The Grand Ibn Batouta stadium is taking shape. Immediately after the addition of a circular concrete level, the installation of the new stands was started. These structures were designed with cutting-edge technologies, meeting the standards of major international arenas.

Furthermore, new work was launched last week for the installation of the stadium roof. This includes establishing sturdy foundations and a unique design. An operation which will be orchestrated entirely by Moroccan technicians and engineers. This work also concerns the installation of basic structures in four strategic areas of the stadium, to facilitate the installation of this metal roof which will cover approximately 90% of the installation.

This roof, intended to protect the Grand Stadium of Tangier, will provide sufficient shade while allowing the light necessary to maintain a natural lawn. This large-scale project, requiring precision and expertise, is expected to last more than four months, following the completion of the iron foundations and design elements.

The key components of the roof have been manufactured in Asia and Europe, and will incorporate a special layer of more than 20,000 square meters composed of two materials, optimized to meet the specific lighting needs essential for stadiums.

The extension of the stadium goes beyond the addition of these new stands and the installation of this roof, also including the installation of various infrastructures around and on the pitch, in accordance with the standards established by FIFA.

It should be noted that the expansion of the Grand Stadium of Tangier aims to increase its reception capacity, following Morocco’s official announcement to list it among the stadiums that will host the 2030 World Cup competitions in our country, alongside Portugal and Spain.

Previously with a capacity of 65,000 seats, this sports arena can now accommodate more than 80,000 spectators.
