Draft results table

Hours after moving up five spots in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings, the Montreal Canadiens selected Michael Hage with the 21st overall pick in the first round of the NHL Draft held at The Sphere in Las Vegas on Friday night.

Last year in the USHL, Hage had 33 goals and 42 assists for a total of 75 points in 54 games.

Hage’s path to a top-six finish and his utility on special teams are clear to see. Despite shoulder surgery last year and the passing of his father in recent months, Hage has made impressive progress.

In return for the choice of the Californian team, the general manager of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes, had given up his first round selection at 26th place in addition to the second round choice (57th) and seventh round (198th).

In an interview with Sportsnet, Hughes revealed that Hage was the target with the 21st pick and that the team sees huge potential in him.

The first round pick traded by the Canadiens was the one acquired in the transaction sending Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets during the last regular season.

Unless there is a change, Kent Hughes and his men will now have to wait until the 3rd round before making a new choice. The CH has picks No. 70 and 78. He will return to the microphone in the fourth round at 102nd place, then twice in the fifth round (130th and 134th overall). The Habs also still have a sixth-round pick, 166th overall, and two seventh-round picks, 210th and 224th overall.
