The Escalade Race always attracts more people. Despite the absence of the Duc race, the event beat its record from last year: 57,183 people took a bib.
It’s a little surprise. Accustomed to beating its registration record every five years, driven by the Race du Duc, the Course de l’Escalade has experienced unprecedented enthusiasm. For its 46th edition, 57,183 bibs were taken.
The previous record dated from last year. The 2023 edition, with the Duc race, attracted 53,805 runners. The highest mark without Duke was set in 2019, with 46,602 registered. “We are delighted to see that this discipline is attracting more and more fans of all ages,” smiles Jerry Maspoli, president of the race. Welcoming so many people on the course and their loved ones within the Parc des Bastions and in the Old Town represents a major challenge from an organizational point of view. In order to guarantee the comfort of the runners and the safety of the public during the weekend, certain measures ahead of the event proved necessary.
Early closures
The news has been in the air in recent weeks. For the first time in its history, the event had to establish registration limits for certain categories, closing registrations early. For example, three-lap races saw an increase of 48%.
The 46th edition of the Course de l’Escalade can be experienced live on December 7 and 8 on Léman Bleu, which offers nearly 15 hours of live broadcast over the entire weekend.
