Thirty-five thousand people are expected by the organizers on Sunday as part of the maritime city marathon. Fifteen thousand runners spread over the six races, from the main event to the “leg warm-up” including the corporate challenge or the disabled sports race, and 20,000 accompanying people.
To ensure safety around the course, the route taken by the runners will be completely closed to traffic from 8 a.m. It will be impossible to enter or leave the interior area before the perimeter is lifted in the afternoon (see the illustrative document below).
The surroundings of Old Port will even be closed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. In detail, four blocking points can be identified. The first near the starting area of the marathon, the duo event and the business challenge, at the intersection of rue de la Ferté with the Maubec and Louis Durand quays. On the east side, the Place du Commandant de la Motte Rouge will mark another point. Finally, on the opposite side, access to vehicles will be blocked at the intersection of rue Verdiere and Léonce Vieljeux and at that between rue des Fagots and Saint-Jean du Pérot.
75 members of the police mobilized
As the day goes on and the last runners pass, the perimeter will be lifted district by district. Thirty municipal police officers, 25 national police officers and twenty soldiers from the Sentinel patrol will be mobilized.
