Veteran Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson has had a good time since his return to the game, but while the organization seems to be looking to young Lukas Dostal for his future in net, the 31-year-old goaltender could change your address by the transaction deadline, March 7.
In a recent article published on “The Athletic”, NHL informant Pierre Lebrun recalls that Gibson and the organization agree on the fact that a transaction must be completed, even if the goaltender has a no-movement clause in his contract.

Lebrun points out that Gibson could have been traded some time ago, were it not for his hefty contract which will still earn him $6.4 million per year until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
However, with the recent increase in the salary cap and other increases that are likely to occur in the coming seasons, Gibson’s contract is becoming less and less forbidding. And the Ducks could always agree to absorb part of his salary.
Thus, three teams could be interested in the goaltender, according to the journalist: the Colorado Avalanche, the Carolina Hurricanes and the Edmonton Oilers.
In fact, it is mainly the Hurricanes who would have the “pole” in this matter, since the Avalanche tends to want to continue to rely on Aleksandar Georgiev in addition to having little room for maneuver under the salary cap. The Oilers, for their part, could use some help in front of the net, but they seem to be prioritizing other needs, particularly on defense.
The Hurricanes, for their part, are reportedly actively looking for a goalie these days, especially after the injury recently suffered by Frederik Andersen, the journalist revealed.
The Canes staff have certainly talked about Gibson and he is on their list, he added.
According to him, if Gibson lands there and returns to his good-day form, it could be a real home run for the goaltender and the organization.
