NHL: Hurricanes offer Martin Necas services

Rumors continue to swirl about Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas.

According to our collaborator Pierre LeBrun, the Hurricanes were offered a 1st round pick for Friday’s draft, which could lead to a transaction in the near future. LeBrun believes the Buffalo Sabers are among the teams interested, but the Hurricanes are determined to wait for the right offer before trading the 25-year-old forward.

While the Hurricanes’ asking price remains high, many have suggested a hostile offer could be made to Necas. The new general manager Eric Tulsky has, however, been clear: he will match any offer – which proves even remotely reasonable – made to the Czech.

“If someone offers him US$16 million a year, we won’t match the offer,” he told LeBrun, who reported his remarks in an article published on The Athletic. But if teams draw a line lower than what we are asking for a trade, then we will not hesitate to match any hostile offer that is made to them.”

Necas is reportedly looking to leave the Hurricanes, having scored 24 goals and 29 assists in 77 games. He would also be looking for a substantial salary increase after having completed the last year of a 2-year contract earning him $3 million annually signed in 2022.
