The winter transfer period is approaching, and many clubs are already anticipating the opportunities to be seized. In Anderlecht, Olivier Renard is preparing to experience his first transfer window as sporting director of the Mauves. The former leader of Standard succeeded Jesper Fredberg in this key position.
The expected impact of Renard’s choices
All eyes are on Renard to see what decisions he will make in January. The legendary Olivier Deschacht, former Anderlecht player, spoke in the columns of Newspaper to advise his ex-club.
The essential pillars for Anderlecht
According to Deschacht, two players are crucial to the club’s ambitions this winter: Thorgan Hazard and Jan Vertonghen. “You don’t need to be a seasoned analyst to understand that their return would bring a clear improvement. Vertonghen, with his experience, is the ideal man to stabilize the defense among the youngsters. As for Thorgan, he adds an extra dimension thanks to his experience. These two players can prove essential for David Hubert.”
A cautious approach to the transfer window
Deschacht recommends to Renard not to upset the current squad. “I don’t think Anderlecht need to make many moves this winter. Only Vazquez hasn’t completely convinced me yet. One option would be to sign an additional striker, but with Hazard and Vertonghen back, Anderlecht has the weapons to play the title.”
Fox faces increased pressure
It remains to be seen whether Renard will follow this advice. In search of recognition from the club and its supporters, he is under pressure, particularly because of his past linked to Standard. The failure of his predecessor, Fredberg, during the summer transfer window, left its mark. Fredberg, like coach Brian Riemer, paid the price for the disappointing results.
