The World Egg Mayonnaise Championship is back for its sixth edition ! This culinary competition will take place this Monday, November 25, 2024 at the Municipality of Saint-Ouen in Loir-et-Cher.

Among the thirteen competitors is the restaurant “Le Gric” located in Orléans ().

This year, it is the Association for the Safeguarding of Egg Mayonnaise (ASOM), created by the late gastronomic columnist Claude Lebey of the eponymous guides which is in charge of organizing this new edition.

Candidates will have to reinterpret this iconic dish and submit their version for tasting by a jury, made up of ten members. The instructions: give free rein to your imagination while preserving the fidelity of the dish.

The awards ceremony will take place the same evening and will be followed by a meal with music as well as a wine tasting, offered by the event’s many partners and winegrower friends.

What’s new in this edition? A amateur cook will also participate in the championshiprecruited following a competition organized at the start of the 2024 school year.

Among the thirteen finalist candidates, is also the team of the restaurant Le Gric in Orléans, represented by Maëlle Jambou.

The egg mayonnaise champion of the Centre-Val de region

In Orléans for four years, Maëlle joins the team when the restaurant opens in September 2023. In June 2024, they will participate in the semi-final of the World Egg Mayonnaise Championship in the Centre-Val de Loire Region.

“We all worked on it and thought about using products from the Region,” she explains to us. And their efforts are bearing fruit since they are elected “Egg Mayonnaise Champions of the Centre-Val de Loire Region” against six other competitors.

“It’s a challenge, it’s always interesting to take part. We know what we are going to present there, we put the egg on the menu to practice and we refined the details,” she declares.

In other words, they are ready. All that remains is to wish them good luck!

L’ASOM

This association governed by the Law of 1901 has clearly set its objectives and, above all, its ambitions: the promotion of the gastronomic tradition of egg mayonnaise, the preservation of its authenticity, the promotion of workers and amateurs who are faithful to it and its transmission to new generations. It benefits from the sponsorship of the Lebey guides who, in 1987, devoted a book for the first time to bistros and this monument of Parisian tradition. The championship is only open to cooks from and Navarre who offer the à la carte recipe of their establishment.
