Fifa faces its inconsistencies. Alajuelense, a Costa Rican club, in fact points out the international body for having granted a place to the Mexican teams of Club León and Club de Fútbol Pachuca, even though they are held by the same group.

More than 18 million euros at stake

According to the competition rules, “no natural or legal person may have control or influence over more than one club participating in the competition”. These same regulations also provide that in the event of an impasse, it is up to the Fifa general secretariat to decide in favor of one of the two clubs, the other remaining at the dock.
