Netflix announces Vinicius, it smells like a flop

Netflix announced this Tuesday that a documentary on Brazilian star Vinicius would see the light of day in 2025 on the platform. An event that does not delight everyone, quite the contrary.

Vinicius Junior had a contrasting year in 2024. Brilliant with Real Madrid, the Seleçao striker long believed he would win the Ballon d'Or, but he ended up being beaten by Rodri at the last moment, which affected him greatly. The 24-year-old can console himself by telling himself that the Netflix platform will feature him in a documentary in 2025. In recent hours, in an interview for the Brazilian football federation, Vinicius recalled that his main objective was to fight against racism: “We are on the right track. I play in Spain, where I suffered a lot and where I still suffer sometimes, but this is less and less the case, with the help of all the clubs and all the people who are doing their best to fight against racism”, he notably announced before challenging Uruguay on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.

The documentary on Vinicius, tweeters don't like it

On its social networks, Netflix started teasing its new documentary on Vinicius with the caption “You are not ready”. However, the reactions of users of the X platform (formerly Twitter) do not go in the same direction. In comments, we can read messages like “No one will watch except him and three Brazilians”, “he has accomplished nothing and they want to make a documentary about him”, “we're not ready because we don't care, very good player but that makes him look like the player of the decade”, “no one asked” or even “making documentaries for legends, not for a guy who cries for a Ballon d’Or that he didn’t deserve.” A first blow for the platform, even if for the moment no release date has been made official. Netflix still has a few months to convince its subscribers to take a look at this documentary.
