Leandro Riedi (ATP 138) beat the American Patrick Kypson (ATP 142) in the 2nd round of Wimbledon qualifying on Wednesday. He is just one victory away from entering the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.

The 22-year-old from Zurich won in three sets, 6-2 3-6 7-5. Riedi will have to beat the Australian Alex Bolt (ATP 234) in the 3rd round if he intends to experience his big debut. The two players have never faced each other until now.

It’s over for Alexander Ritschard (ATP 178), however, who lost in three sets to Otto Virtanen (ATP 149). The Finn won 6-7 (1/7) 7-5 6-4 against the 30-year-old from Zurich.

Valentina Ryser (WTA 236) is also one success away from the main draw. The 23-year-old Bernese is competing in the qualifiers for a Grand Slam tournament for the first time and she dominated the American Varvara Lepchenko 6-2 6-7 (4/7) 6-3. Her next opponent will be Robin Montgomery (WTA 160), another American.

No miracle, on the other hand, for Simona Waltert (WTA 227), who was eliminated in the second round of these qualifications. The 23-year-old from Grisonne lost in the evening to the American Katie Volynets, 71st player in the world, with a score of 6-3 6-2.
