The United States Hockey Federation will have to submit the list of its 23 players on December 2 and everything will be revealed two days later. Regarding Caufield, journalist Pierre LeBrun reported last week that he risks not being retained by the organization; however, it would continue to evaluate it until the chosen names are filed.
Until the verdict is announced, the Montreal Canadiens winger is nourishing himself with hope by thinking about the possibility of representing his country in front of the Bell Center crowd; Moreover, the Americans will face Finland on February 13, then Canada two days later.
“I would be 100% thrilled to get the opportunity to play for Team USA,” No. 13 admitted to NHL.com. I think everyone wants to be on this team again, especially with the 2026 Olympics on the horizon. This is of course a very competitive group; there would probably be a way to put together two star teams filled with hockey players from the country.
“However, I will fight and do what I can to focus on myself. We’ll see what happens next.”
Caufield has 12 goals in 2024-25 and ranks fourth in the National League in this regard. Among his compatriots, Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel and Matthew Tkachuk are already guaranteed to play in the tournament, as long as they are healthy.
